Federal Advocacy Day

On May 20, Families Fighting Hereditary Cancer (FFHC) cofounder, Sheila Adams Gardner was honored to meet with federal lawmakers to discuss legislation to improve access to cancer prevention care for people facing hereditary cancer. This year, the agenda for Federal Advocacy Day, led by Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (FORCE), focused on the following bills:

  1. Reducing Hereditary Cancer Act (H.R.4752/S.2760) will align Medicare with other insurers. It would enable coverage of guideline-recommended genetic testing for hereditary cancer mutations, supplemental cancer screenings and preventive services for those who qualify, while saving Medicare $230 million a year.

  2. The Access to Genetic Counselor Services Act (H.R.6280/S.3607) is needed to ensure access to genetic counselors in the increasingly complex world of genetics and genomics in healthcare.

  3. The HOPE with Fertility Services Act (H.R. 8119) will treat infertility like any other medical condition and establish baseline coverage requirements.
