Empowering Community Forum!
“Cancer in Our DNA. Let’s Talk About It.” Community Forum, September 20, 2025.
On September 20, Families Fighting Hereditary Cancer hosted its first cancer prevention educational event, “Cancer in our DNA. Let’s Talk About It!” Community Forum at Thrive On King in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Thanks to our partners, Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center, this free event provided empowering workshops and lunch. The diverse and interactive program was designed to cover both clinical knowledge and practical lifestyle changes:
Genetics Session: Jenny Geurts, MS, CGC, Director of Genetics Counseling at the Medical College of Wisconsin, led an interactive session on using genetic information for early detection and prevention.
Lifestyle Workshops: Attendees benefited from a healthy cooking demonstration by cancer survivor and chef Amberlea Childs (Plant Joy) and an energizing line dancing exercise session led by cancer survivor and nurse Angela Scott (Get Dance Waisted).
Inspirational Stories: FFHC Cofounders and sisters, Sheila Adams Gardner, Patricia Cifax, and Jacinta Tatum, shared powerful personal testimonies about inheriting a cancer-risk gene mutation and the proactive steps they took for disease prevention.
The positive feedback was OVERWHELMING! We are so grateful for every participant and volunteer.
The camaraderie and support of our Previvor Thriver Community was deeply felt by all. It was truly a day to remember!
