Bridging the Gap

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Cancer Center celebrated a powerful milestone in the fight for health equity. Jacinta Tatum, cofounder of Families Fighting Hereditary Cancer (FFHC), officially graduated from the Community & Cancer Science Network (CCSN) Scholars Program.

The CCSN program pairs community leaders with MCW graduate students and clinical fellows to address cancer disparities through a 9-month curriculum (September–May). This hybrid program builds trust, fosters collaboration and offers equitable, specialized training on cancer and community outreach. As a carrier of the RAD51D genetic mutation, Jacinta provided the Research Scholars with invaluable insights that no textbook could offer.

Completing this nine-month intensive was no small feat for Jacinta. As a dedicated special education teacher in Milwaukee, committing to weekly sessions from September to May required immense discipline and a level of dedication that defines who she is. We are grateful for Jacinta’s commitment to ensure that the Previvor Community had a voice in the highest levels of medical research.

FFHC is profoundly grateful for this opportunity to grow its connections within the MCW network. Jacinta’s graduation marks a new chapter of transformational impact for our organization and the families we serve.

We invite you to join us in our mission to provide awareness, education, and a supportive community for previvors everywhere. Together, we can beat hereditary cancer.

KNOW YOUR RISK. MANAGE YOUR RISK. BEAT HEREDITARY CANCER!
